So far this month I’ve been trying to be good and not spend much since the bills from the holiday shopping will be rolling in. But I I did purchase some items and wanted to share my savings so far this month.
Thanksgiving pictures and savings!!
Nails I painted myself with Sally Hansen miracle gel polish in the color Creme de la Creme and glued on nail jewels I had purchased on Amazon.
My cousin and I designed a bar sign with the drinks we would be serving. The sign is a black poster board and we used white marker to draw on. I then designed the drink pictures using Picmonkey.com. She added velcro to the back of the drink pictures so we could remove them next time we use the sign and switch to different pictures.
After I purchased the alcohol I checked out BevRage and ibotta cash back apps and saved $6 total because there were rebates on the Vodka and Rum I used!! All I had to do is sign into the apps and upload my receipt!
Holidays are a big time for the purchase of alcohol. Not only are drinks usually served at Holiday parties but they are also given as gifts. Make sure to check out these apps over the holiday seasons to save on liquor, wine and beer purchases!!
Gel nails is somewhat of a newer trend going around. Companies are creating a cheaper version of salon gel nails so that savvy savers out there who do their own nails can look like they have professionally done nails. So far I have tried two gel polishes; one from Wet n wild, “WNW”, and one from Sally Hansen, “SH”.
I think that SH has experience with nail polishes, it’s their specialty so the quality is not surprisingly better. Both polishes go on smoothly and resist chipping longer than most regular polishes. I would say SH polishes are more opaque than the WNW. I probably should have used 3 coats for WNW where with SH I could probably get away with just one.
Just looking at retail price, in most drugstores near me SH’s is sold for $9.99 vs WTN at $4.99 dollar polish. But I’ve purchased 2 of the SH products so far, both from CVS and I did not pay full price. See my earlier blog post here on how to save money on this purchase.
Overall I like them both I just prefer the color selection and density of Sally Hansen a bit more than Wet N Wild.
Ulta is one of my favorite places to shop. I love their mix of drugstore and high end beauty products. But I love saving money too! That’s why I create a wish list of products I need / want and wait for sales. Often they have 20% off you purchase, BOGO 50% off or you can use a $3.50 off your purchase of $15 or more. And those are good deals but those promotions don’t usually qualify on “prestige” brands at Ulta (which of course are the products I want). For a list of those brands check here
So I wait..and I wait..
At the end of October the sale I have been waiting for finally came!
20% off your entire purchase prestige brands included. YESS!! I had anticipated this sale would come some time before Sephora’s VIB sale in November but I didn’t know exactly when. Even though I didn’t know the exact date I did scope out a discounted gift card a month ago in anticipation. Thanks to that I received an additional 15% off my purchase!!
The Ulta 20% off your entire purchase was for an online purchase only and the promo code came via email. Make sure you are signed up as a Ulta rewards member and receive promotions to an email address that you check often. This sale lasted for one day only!
Total purchase: $240 before discount + 20% applied = $192, additional discounted giftcard 15% off: total paid $163 (does not include taxes). Total savings 32%
I love having painted nails but don’t want to pay nail salon prices for them. So I paint my nails each week in the comfort of my own home. This saves me time and money, plus I can switch up the color whenever I want and don’t have to schedule an appointment or take the time to drop into a nail salon.
