So far this month I’ve been trying to be good and not spend much since the bills from the holiday shopping will be rolling in. But I I did purchase some items and wanted to share my savings so far this month.
Tis the season for wrapping presents! But if you’re like me and you never know what gifts to get people then you just opt for a gift card! I love receiving gift cards for Christmas because then you can purchase anything you want without worrying about someone getting you the wrong size, fit, color etc.
My only two guidelines for giving gift cards:
- If you’re going to get someone a gift card make sure it’s for a store they will use it at.
- Buy the gift card at a discount price if possible
There is a bunch of ways to get discounted gift cards. My favorite is through Raise, which offers a large variety of cards for various stores. I’ve purchased over ten gift cards from them this year and I’ve never had an issue, but if you are concerned about the legitimacy there is a 100 day money back guarantee. One drawback would be is that most of the gift cards offered are egift cards or vouchers you can print. So there is no actual physical card to hand to someone.
If you have a cash back rewards card (I have Chase Freedom) then you can buy a gift card and earn cash back rewards. Rewards can then be used towards a credit card payment or to purchase a gift card from Chase. Chase’s 4th quarter bonus category this year includes drugstores, which means you will get 5% cash back on top of the usual 1% on any purchases this quarter. And guess what CVS sells at their store….Gift cards! So I’ve already purchased Dunkin, Starbucks and Amazon gift cards for 6% cash back. And these are physical cards so I can throw them in a stocking or place them in a greeting card.
If you already have cash back rewards that you have accumulated throughout the year check out Chase’s Ultimate Rewards website when your logged into your account. You’ll be able to redeem your rewards for gift cards from there!
Okay another option is if you are a Verizon customer they came out with a rewards program, Verizon Smart Rewards, for current customers and you can use some of your rewards/points to buy a gift card through their website and you will get money off (discount). You can learn more about their rewards program here.
If your a current Verizon customer log into your account online and click on shop my rewards and browse. The selection is smaller but some of the cards currently offered are for CVS, Macy’s, Bath and Body Works, Victoria’s Secret, Neiman Marcus, and Under Armour. You have to buy in increments of $100 or $50, but which ever you choose you will use points to get the card at a 10% discount!
Gift cards can easily be added to a stocking, small gift bags, or even put in a decorative box with smaller items to be unwrapped this holiday season.
P.S. If you receive a gift card this holiday season and you know for sure you will not use you can sell also use Raise website to sell your gift card for cashback on Raise.
Savings: 6%-10% or more!
Every store you go into this time of year has great savings. I often found that in the past on Black Friday everything is so picked over that there is no point to even looking for good deals. But this past week alone I have saved 42% by taking advantage of sales and promotions pre black Friday.
At Charlotte Russe leggings were BOGO FREE! Since I will be wearing them all winter long I bought two pairs for $10 total. Also there were a pretty pair of over the knee boots on sale in the store I was shopping at but already they only had one size left and it was not my size. So I went home and the next day I was prepared to drive to another store to find my size but when I checked online I saw that these boots were on sale and there was free shipping on any purchase, no limit! So I just bought them right then online for $26.99. Plus when I purchased the leggings the day before I received an email for 20% off my entire next purchase so I used that discount code at checkout. The boots were originally priced at $44.99 but were marked down 40% + 20% discount so $21.60 and free shipping. That’s 52% savings.
Charming Charlie has a bunch of discount coupons floating around. I used two of the bonus cards in two separate transactions and saved $30 on 2 dresses 2 scarves and a sweater!!
Between these two stores I saved $62, or 42%, that’s pretty good to me considering I didn’t have to deal with any large crowds or long lines!!
Check out my Sephora savings this season here.
The time has come for the Sephora VIB sale!! 20% off anything and everything if you are a VIB member.
Sephora has three levels of reward memberships and you can find the breakdown of each here. I became a VIB member just last year (you have to spend $350 in a yr) so I participated in this years VIB sale. The VIB Rogue members got to shop the sale the weekend prior, but everything I had on my wish list was in stock.
In order to save the most money I did not purchase anything from Sephora throughout the year because it would not have been on sale. And therefore I spent all $350 (threshold to become and remain a VIB member) in this one weekend. I placed all my orders online and I used a discount giftcard that I had purchased ahead of time for additional savings.
I broke up my purchases into 5 different transactions, so I would receive free shipping but also 3 free samples for each shipment (15 samples). And also I used my points I earned from the previous transaction to add on deluxe size samples to my next transaction.
I would have paid over $430 for all the products on my wish list but I received 20% off and spent $350 to reach the threshold for next year’s VIB status. In addition I saved 9% with my discount giftcard, so I saved 27% or roughly $117.
This may sound like a lot but this is my time of the year to stock up for the entire next year on makeup/skincare/haircare products. I do not shop at Sephora at any other point during the year.
I did a similar deal here at Ulta. Again it may seem like a lot but I stock up this time of year and don’t buy unless there is a sale.
